It's about the extraordinary ‘good Kiwi bloke’ who coached Danyon Loader to win two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA in 1996. The book, written by his son Stefan Laing has been described by The Otago Daily Times as a "story worth telling"

"The wait for Stefan Laing’s book on Duncan Laing has been well worthwhile. His book was so absorbing that I finished it one sitting. I congratulate Stefan on his extremely well written and perceptive account of Duncan’s life as a swimming coach. In my opinion, Stefan’s book ranks alongside the best of any book that I have read on New Zealand sports and, indeed, sports in general. Duncan would have been very proud of his son’s accomplishment as an author."

GOLD x 2 tells the story of Duncan Laing, much respected and loved for his boundless commitment to teaching and coaching rugby, surf life saving and swimming in New Zealand.
“Valid comparisons have been drawn between Duncan Laing and the incomparable athletics coach Arthur Lydiard. Both men were from similar backgrounds with coaching skills honed through practical experience without reference to sport science and psychology so evident in contemporary coaching. That these two coaching icons were responsible for a stable of Olympic athletes highlighted by the feats of Snell and Loader was no surprise. This story had to be told and I applaud the energy of his son Stefan in assembling countless hours of research and reminiscence … it is a pleasure and an honour to pen this brief foreword.”
