I launched Silver Fern Press as a small, flexible publishing company in 2014 in order to encourage and support New Zealand writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
I’ve been committed to education and teaching for the past twenty years.
I am also a writer, and I know that in New Zealand it's challenging for even experienced and highly competent writers to get their work published, and in front of readers.
My own writing career started in 1998 with a play for children called Peanut Butter Sandwiches which was published by Learning Media Ltd. I still remember the excitement of receiving the journal in my rural mail box at Marahau. It was a huge thrill.
Since then I have had various plays, articles and stories printed by a variety of publishers, including Learning Media, Rainbow Reading, and Reed - see bibliography at right for a full list.
These works have been primarily used in schools in New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific. Some have been translated into Maori or European languages. Recently a teaching friend messaged me from Hong Kong and she was at a teachers’ workshop where my work was being presented. So it gets around – often without me knowing!
